Fahrenheit 451 Continuation
This semester we are reading Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury. On Friday we discussed how the poem Dover Beach written by Matthew Arnold impacted the story. In the book the poem is present when Guy returns from meeting Faber and gets into an argument with Mildred's friends, Mrs.Phelps and Mrs.Bowles. As a catalyst to the argument Guy reads the poem, causing Mrs.Phelps to cry and Mrs.Bowles to get really angry, causing them both to leave. In this blog post I will be making a continuation of the story by predicting what will happen next.
After we left Mrs. Phelps kept on crying, I tried to comfort her, telling her that Guy was crazy or he was just kidding, but she wouldn't stop.
She said, "I don't know why I'm crying, it was too much. What Guy read was too much for me."
"Don't let it get to your head, he's crazy," I explained.
Once I dropped her off I went home myself. Why did he have to read that stupid poem? Why did the people have to write such things? I decided to forget about the whole situation by watching my "family". I never felt this sad feeling before, not when my divorce happened or the death of my second husband occurred.
I got up from my seat, tired and depressed. I opened the vial of sleeping pills and put some in my hand. I was unaware of how many I have taken, I laid down on the bed feeling drowsy. I put my Seashells in my ears and listened to some soft music. The telephone was just in arms reach, I picked it up and made a phone call.
"Hello, Fire department? I have some important information to share with you...."
After I put the phone down I cursed Guy and his poem, and went into a deep sleep. That was it my life flashed before my eyes and it ended.

I loved how you had Mrs.Bowles call the fire department and leave off what happens next. I also thought she would take the sleeping pills and feel drowsy after what had happened with Montag.
ReplyDeleteWow. When I first read your blog I was in shock. Both of our continuations are extremely similar! Great minds think alike I guess. But I like how you showed her thoughts about the poem. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThe plot of your story was really well written. I liked how you just ended the scene, like she ended her life.
ReplyDeleteNice continuation Aditya! I liked how you showed Mrs. Bowled reaction to the scene. I liked how you showed her major dropoff in terms of sanity at the end.
